Gas Pipe replacement project in Hinton Road, Reading
I am contacting you regarding our project to replace the metal gas pipe in Hinton Road, Reading. We need to replace the old metal pipe with new polyethylene pipe to continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply. Our contractor, I&G contractors, started work 3/8/26 and will be complete in approximately 8 weeks.
Who are SGN?
As the owner and operator of the gas network in your area, we provide commercial, Industrial and domestic properties with a gas supply in your community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The gas pipe network is commonly situated under the carriageway. To access the pipes safely we need to work within regulated health and safety requirements which may require us to use traffic management.
Where will we be working?
Church Hill
We will be closing a small section on Church Hill for our storage compound area.
Orchard Road
We will be closing Orchard Road, to help minimise the traffic while we replace the gas main on School Road.
School Road and Church Hill
To safely manage the flow of traffic while we replace the gas main on School Road and make a connection on Church Hill, we will need to install temporary two way traffic lights while we complete this work.
Hinton Road
We will be closing Hinton Road between its junction with the A321 and The Green Man while we replace the gas main to ensure our workspace is safe and compliant. A signed diversion will be In place.
What does this mean for you?
If your property is within the road closure, access will be maintained. Please speak to our engineers about any specific requirements you may have.
Please ensure that delivery drivers and visitors know about the road closure and traffic lights to allow them to factor in additional delivery time.
Please check with your local bus company to be aware of any delayed busses or suspended bus stops.
Please allow additional time for your journeys.
We understand that a road closure causes inconvenience to the local community and will utilise the quickest and safest engineering techniques to ensure that we complete the project as quickly as possible.
